Game of Hockey

When we talk about the game of Hockey It comes to mind the type of hockey which was played in the world i.e. Ice hockey, wheel hockey, and floor hockey but here we talk about Men’s field hockey. Although field hockey was included in London Olympics in 1908 at that time only six countries took part in the first event of the Olympic games. Hockey could not get popularity and attention at international levels and due to the non-availability of hockey structures in many countries, the Olympic committee has not included field hockey in the 1924 Paris Olympics.

Foundation of International Hockey Federation

When field hockey was removed from Olympics 1924 in response to the removal, International Hockey Federation was founded 1924 to make sure and take the necessary steps and coordinate with the hockey controlling bodies in the country where hockey was played so that men should be permanently re-included in the Olympics. Due to the efforts of FIH, men’s hockey became the permanent feature from the next Olympics 1928 which were played in Amsterdam.

Start of Hockey World Cup by FIH (International Hockey Federation)

As men’s field hockey was already played in Olympics the idea of a hockey world cup was first time given by the chairman of the Pakistan hockey federation Air Marshall Nur Khan to the FIH in 1969 which was considered by the International Hockey Federation and decided that the first world cup will be played in 1971. The world cup trophy design was made by Mr. Bashir Majid and Pakistan Army created the trophy as per its design in 1971. The first three world cup was played every two years and the 1978 world cup was played after the gap of three years from the last world cup and after that, it was played after four years.
