Game of Hockey
When we talk about the game of Hockey It comes to mind the type of hockey which was played in the world i.e. Ice hockey, wheel hockey, and floor hockey but here we talk about Men’s field hockey. Although field hockey was included in London Olympics in 1908 at that time only six countries took part in the first event of the Olympic games. Hockey could not get popularity and attention at international levels and due to the non-availability of hockey structures in many countries, the Olympic committee has not included field hockey in the 1924 Paris Olympics.
Foundation of International Hockey Federation
When field hockey was removed from Olympics 1924 in response to the removal, International Hockey Federation was founded 1924 to make sure and take the necessary steps and coordinate with the hockey controlling bodies in the country where hockey was played so that men should be permanently re-included in the Olympics. Due to the efforts of FIH, men’s hockey became the permanent feature from the next Olympics 1928 which were played in Amsterdam.

As men’s field hockey was already played in Olympics the idea of a hockey world cup was first time given by the chairman of the Pakistan hockey federation Air Marshall Nur Khan to the FIH in 1969 which was considered by the International Hockey Federation and decided that the first world cup will be played in 1971. The world cup trophy design was made by Mr. Bashir Majid and Pakistan Army created the trophy as per its design in 1971. The first three world cup was played every two years and the 1978 world cup was played after the gap of three years from the last world cup and after that, it was played after four years.
Hockey World Cup -1971 -Barcelona – Spain

The first hockey world cup was played in Spain’s city Barcelona and ten teams took part in the tournament which was divided into two groups. The top two teams of each group will play a semi-final.

History of FIFA World cup Winners
The final of the world cup was played between Netherlands and India the match draws 2-2 in normal time and extra time so the match was decided on penalty strokes where the Netherlands beat India by 4-2. The host Netherlands won the second edition of the world cup.
Hockey World Cup 1975 Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia

The host of the third edition of the world cup was Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Twelve teams participated in the tournament and were placed into two groups.

The fourth edition of the men’s field hockey world cup was hosted by Argentina and played in Buenos Aires. The teams have been increased to fourteen and divided into two pools.

The fifth edition of the men’s world field hockey cup was played in Mumbai India. This edition was being played after four years and twelve teams participate in this event and were placed in two groups. Leading two teams from each group will play the semi-final of the tournament.

The 14th edition of the world cup was played in India. A total of sixteen teams took part in the tournament and this time the pattern of the event has been changed. Teams were placed into four groups and a top team of each group will directly play in the quarter-final while the two and third-position teams of each group will play the cross-over match to be in the quarter-final.

The 15th edition of the world cup will be played in India from 13 January to 29 January 2023.
